Memorial Day Weekend

Maybe it's because school is officially out for us. (yippee!) Or, maybe it's because we didn't have much on the "to do" list this weekend. Whatever, the reason, this was a great weekend. Lots of family and friend time, and even some "mommy all by herself" time too. :)

I didn't take many pictures (I know you're disappointed...), but here are a few things that were fun this weekend.

1. An amazing birthday celebration meal with Mark's family. Cheri never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful cooking, and even John did some yummy barbecuing. The entire meal made us miss Hawaii...shoyu chicken, fried rice, fresh pineapple, strawberry salad, pasta salad, and peach cobbler. YUM. Thank you, Cheri, for a wonderful birthday dinner!

2. Saturday morning donuts...AK loves this outing with Daddy, and has perfected each of our orders: a few chocolate, lots of sprinkles, chocolate milk times three, and a coke for mommy.

3. Mommy outings all day long on Saturday! I spent the entire morning here:
Which is my dream morning. Two hours of wandering around shelves of books, reading pages here and there, looking for--and finding--hidden treasures. I did end up picking quite a few books for the kids in Ghana this summer, as well as quite a few goodies for our own home.

(Oh, and speaking of Half Price Books, they are offering a GREAT kids summer reading program, called Feed Your Brain. If you have kids under age 14, you should do this!)

After shopping for books, I met friends for a Greek lunch and pedicures! My dream day continued. :) It was a fun way to celebrate all of our birthdays a little bit late, and visit our favorite people at May Nails.

After a couple more shopping stops, I headed to meet the family for dinner after their day of swimming and playing.

4. After a GREAT morning at church, we headed to Grandad and Grankay's house for GrandSunday! Another excellent Memorial Day meal, with burgers, hot dogs, cupcakes and homemade ice cream. So much yummy food, lots of great conversation, playtime with cousins, and a Thomas the Train celebration for Mr. Aiden who turned THREE!

5. Sunday night was family movie night. And, the girls watched this movie for the first time:
Sisters, you would be proud. They know all of our favorite lines and have sung "There are no cats in America" a thousand times in the last 24 hours. It was a great blast from the past for me...and as always, my girls laughed at me quoting the whole movie and singing the songs.

6. Memorial Day was spent with our family friends, the Harpers, who so kindly invited us all over for a whole day of fun. It was one of the best Memorial Days we've had in a very long time.
We always love being with them, because the kids have so much fun together. All seven of them got along great, which left time for the adults to actually have real conversation!

Kendyll and Kayla, the big girls of the group, and friends since infancy...
And, Caroline and Carlie, who we think must have been linked in the womb. :)
The Harpers' neighborhood has a parade to celebrate the holiday...and it came RIGHT down their street!! It was so cute, and the kids loved waving at the participants, and collecting piles of candy from the streets.
Here's the whole gang together:
And, our little policeman friend, Cole. :)
From there, the playtime continued all day long with dress-up, trampoline jumping, lunch, swimming at the pool, and more playtime!

We came home tonight one very dirty, sweaty, tired...and happy family! It was the perfect end to a great long weekend!
