Party in the Potty!

No, this is not a post about my 2 year old being potty-trained....although that would be a GREAT post to be able to write!

We had a party in the potty tonight for a different reason---because of the crazy weather! I knew storms were coming to our area (how could you not know when the weather man interrupts every show to tell you so?) but did not expect them to be so bad! There I was talking to my sister on the phone, dealing with the kids, and about to feed Abby Kate. We were listening to David Finfrock (the weatherman) in the background and I see my city with a big RED radar screen on TV. Then, the tornado sirens start. So, we turn up the volume and I tell my sister goodbye. Just then, they said to immediately take cover if you live in our area! They said they were most worried about the exact freeway we live off of and that we should expect high winds, baseball sized hail, and a possible tornado that had already touched down miles from us.

So, Mark opens the front door to check it out, while I (mildly freak out) get the girls, find the flashlights, get pillows, and head to the guest bathroom. Kendyll was very curious about what we were doing, so I told her we were just going to have a little party in the bathroom! (Later I did explain WHY we were doing this, but just didn't say much about the tornado part....). What was funny was that Carlie never wondered why we were piled on top of each other in a room we never play in. I guess she didn't care why---it was fun!

I wish I could have had a camera for a family shot of all five of us in a powder bathroom barely big enough for one person! We tried to include Annie, our dog, but there was no way it was working. So, she got the master bedroom closet all to herself. (And, we forgot about her for almost two hours!!)

This was the scene: Kendyll and Carlie piled up on pillows in the floor, taking turns flashing each other with the lights, and then resorting to game after game of "Patty Cake" and clapping cheers. Mark was sitting on the toilet feeding Abby Kate a bottle, and I was standing up pumping in case the electricity went out!! It was hillarious.

Needless to say, we survived the weather, and really didn't have much action, compared to what they thought we would have. We did have hail, and we did have rain. But, nothing too scary. However, we came out of the bathroom to see that it was still right in the heart of the city! We are still praying that the damage is minimal and that everyone we know and love all over this city are safe!!

And, hopefully we won't have anymore parties in the potty room anytime soon. :)

Update: I also talked to my Dad and he had a tornado down the STREET! Of course, he didn't know it was a tornado until I told him, because he had no electricity AND he was OUTSIDE taking pictures when it was all going on. Real safe, Dad. I'm glad you didn't get taken to the land of Oz via tornado cloud. :)

We also had Mark's parents call us from Hawaii because our storms were on their news! Crazy how the word gets around when tornadoes are close.

...and then there's Dad...snapping pictures of it all with a tornado just down the street:)

I'm glad you are okay after your little party! How scary to have such severe weather all over the place!

I'm so glad you're ok! Very scary (...maybe a little funny, too.) The siren screamed in our ears after Sam's baseball practice, so we rushed home to the tv. We had the rain and hail, but got off pretty easy.

I am so glad that you are okay! I really, really love that you were pumping. That is true Mommy love!! Your Dad sounds like my Dad... he never takes stuff like that seriously. I guess they haven't watched Wizard of Oz enough :)

I remember being a child and many times hiding in the bathroom with a mattress over us when tornadoes were heading our way. My dad, like yours, would always be standing at the open door looking to see what was outside. I always wondered why we were in the bathtub and he got to stand outside. Anyway, I always thought it was so exciting! I bet your girls had a blast and are already looking forward to a repeat. :-)

I too can remember those times taking shelter with the siren going outside. Mom always had KVIL cranked up so we could keep up with the weather.

I do appreciate the abundance of basements around here for those times. We haven't experienced a potty party of that sort yet.

I'm thankful you are all okay. I love the thought of your dad out on the street taking pictures. Maybe he'll have a good shot that the news channels could use:).

Hey, I've always wanted to visit Oz! When we lived in Floydada, I had my hopes up so many times only to be disappointed that it passed us by time after time. I remember so clearly how scared Littlemama would get when a "cloud" would "come up". She just knew that we would all end up in Oz or end up re-planting cotton if it wasn't too late in the growing season.

Seriously, Alyssa, I think dads who grew up in the farmlands of the Panhandle just assumed their post at the door or outside to see if their crops were going to make it through this storm or not.

Anyway, I don't have any good pictures... the tornado actually passed one street north of us and I was on the south side of our house at the time. I do have a few 2" hail stones in my freezzer, though!

After looking through Haltom City's neighborhoods that were hit, our little neighborhood fared pretty well. We had a bunch of trees down but no one injured and only a couple of houses damaged. I think the funnel actually never touched the ground here - just sucked up some trees as it passed over. Thanks to God that all we had was one tree branch down in our front yard. A visit to Oz will have to wait a while longer! :)

As I was reading all the fun your girls had in the small bathroom, I couldn't help but imagine Noah in that small bathroom. THAT would have stunk. Glad you're all OK. Midlothian barely got rain.

Glad you guys are OK... I use to love storms until we got the terrible hail storm a couple of years ago that broke out eight windows in our house. Now I am a bit scared of it all!!! Not much happened in Hamilton this time... just some rain. I know a party in the potty was enjoyed by all. Kids are so good about just going with the flow!! Take care.....
