was interrupted by Hurricane A...
Yes, Mr. Alex himself.
Two months ago, my sisters and our families made a plan to head to South Padre for a week, and were excited to stay all together in a wonderful house on the beach that we were renting from a friend of Uncle Adam's. We packed the swim gear, bought plenty of sand buckets and sunscreen, made a meal plan, bought the groceries, and drove for hours.
And, we got to use all of that gear for almost two days...
Before a total evacuation was necessary. (This was the sky when we were driving away on Tuesday...)
But, even though we were not there long, we had SUCH a fun time! We used every minute of the sunny beach time we did have, and the cousins did all kinds of boogie boarding, swimming, and wave surfing. (The waves were NICE and BIG for our beach fun, due to the pending storm on its way.)
Here are the first reactions when the girls hit the water:
And, don't they look like professional boogie-boarders?
There were sandcastle builders...
And, shell diggers...
Success!
Even in one beach day, we had plenty of time to lounge around (Abby Kate is officially the winner in this category)
and, play together...
My lens was completely fogged over from the humidity, so these were not the best pictures I've ever taken (And I won't even begin my whine about the white dresses we packed for a Christmas-card-ish picture in the sand that never happened. But, no, I'm not bitter about that... :)
Anyway, since I'm not whining, let's move on to more about these cuties.
This section is called "Pool Time", which was the second half of our two day beach vacation. The house we stayed in also had a pool, which the kids enjoyed probably as much as they did the beach!
Everything's more fun when done with cousins AND popsicles!
Now, stay tuned for Summer Vacation: Plan B, when we traveled to our evacuation destination!

Girl, I totally understand the "replanning" of the summer vacation. Although I was at least given a months notice of our change. Glad you guys had fun and can't wait to see how it ended. Cute pics...that Abby Kate! She is so funny!
Bless your hearts. We had to evacuate from Florida a few years ago for Hurrican Ivan. It totally stunk, but we still laugh at many of the stories from that trip. Hope that your plan B was fun.
We have plans to be in Gulf Shores/Florida all week...cancelled because of oil. THe bright spot for us was getting to be able to go to Clint's party last weekend and seeing you guys and lots of old friends! Looks like you had a fun week in spite of the Hurricane.
