Humor of a 4 1/2 year old...

Kendyll has been cracking me up the last few days, since she has come home from time at Gammy's house. Anytime she visits Gammy and Papa Ron, she also has lots of quality time with Aunt Cailee, her sixteen year old aunt, and my littlest sister. She usually learns something fun when she's there, and this time was no exception.

Cailee, who is a product of her generation of IM-ing, text messaging, My Space, and other such fun things that I try to avoid, uses abbreviations that are shortened for longer phrases. Some examples are LOL (something about laughter--I don't even know what), IMO (in my opinion), etc. And, I guess a couple of these she uses in her everyday outloud conversations too. The two that my 4 year old daughter has learned are J/K (just kidding) and N/K (no kidding). My mom had warned me that Kendyll had picked this up, but I really had no idea the EXTENT that she was using it. Well, now, it's her favorite phrase. And, she's pretty good at incorporating into our conversations. The problem is that now she has to say something funny or false just so she can say "JK, Mommy!" Or, when she's wanting something and I'm telling her no she pulls out "I'm NK, Mommy!" Oh my goodness, it's driving me crazy!

Today, during our "school time", we were doing a phonics workbook. The page that we were on was about sounds that words end with. She loves doing these kinds of things, so she did quite a few pages like this. But, she started putting the wrong sounds with the words just to be funny. So, this is an example of how it would go.

The picture is of a goat. You can choose between "p" and "t" for the ending sound.
"Mommy, is this a goap?"
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha , JK, Mommy!" And she would laugh for five minutes about how funny that was. This continued AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN until I was basically annoyed beyond belief. Finally, after hearing this joke 100 times for made up words like moot (moon), crip (crib), wek (web), liob (lion), and cad (cap), I said loudly in a somewhat agitated voice, "Kendyll, no more JK-ing! Just circle the letter you think it is!!" I felt bad that I couldn't get into this humor, and even though I like to blame some of it on my hormones, it was just not that funny after a while! But she thought she was the MOST hillarious person in the world.

Then, when I layed her down for rest time while ago, she said "I love you too, Mommy. I'll have a good "resp tibe" (rest time)". Ha ha ha ha ha ha....and the laughter started again. Then, I hear "I'm just JK-ing, Mom!" as I close the door on my little comedian.

So, it sounds like we have a new joke to listen to for the next few days. I hope I don't go crazy on her. I guess, if nothing else, it's helping her with phonics?

Okay...that is funny! When we spent the week with Cailee, I cannot count how many times I heard "JK" from Cailee's mouth. It drove me crazy!!!

Apparently the abbreviations rubbed off on mom a little bit, because she kept referring to Bed, Bath, & Beyond as "B,B&B."

Coming from Kendyll...it's a lot cuter...but I can see how it would get old!

Tam, I've always known you were cool. Quite impressive with the abbreviations. All I know is LYLAS and BYOB. Okay, that last one was just for shock value.

Cort, that CRACKS me up that Mom does it too. I so wish I could have heard the BB&B thing. TOO funny! Please don't let me turn into the "Really, teenage daughter, I'm cool too" kind of mom, okay?!

And, mom, if you're reading this, I love you!!!!

Oh...I also heard she did a little role-playing at Gammy's. Something about not being interrupted while she was on the phone...;)

I thought LOL was Laugh Out Loud. I guess I was ITD (in the dark) on that one.

TTFN before I give out TMI.

Okay, you are all cooler than me. I did know TMI though! :)

What is this role play she did, Cortni? I didn't hear that story yet. I hope she didn't yell at her children while she was being a mommy on the phone...

Chelsea-

Just catching up on your blog! I am so absolutley thrilled for you and your precious family! What a joy! I will be praying for you and this sweet baby. My grandmother always says, "Congratulations on launching another soul into eternity...what a gift to raise someone to know the Lord." We rejoice with you and Mark on this sweet new soul because I know the Lord has magnificent plans for this precious new life!

I am about to run dinner over to a friends house but can hardly wait to get back and read the baby blog!

Kendyll sounds like so much fun...

Love you-

becky

That is funny! I thought it was Laughing out Loud! There is also ROFL (Rolling on the Floor Laughing).

Hey Chelsea, I am going to need tonsil advice! Chase's are coming out on the 11th. How long should I expect recovery to take?

That's a hoot, Chels! Trinity is in to knock knock jokes, but doesn't know any of them.

"Knock Knock"
"Who's There"
"Paint"
"Paint Who"
"Paint Banana" HA HA HA HA HA

That gets annoying too after the 100th time!! Then she wants to take turns saying them. The sad thing is that I only know 1 or 2 knock knock jokes! :)Maybe we should put the girls in a room together and let them crack each other up!

Trinity does the silly thing when we're trying to learn too. It drives me NUTS! I hope Mrs. Traci (or whoever her teacher is) doesn't go crazy with a room full of jokesters next year!!!

Now I'm LOL!!!

I LOVE a good laugh so that won't bother me at all!

LD- that's later dawg!

I heard about the role playing too...she would act like she was on the phone and then firmly tell people to stop interuppting her while she was on the phone...I think she might have heard it before:)

She also told me (in her very grown up phone voice) that she wished Cortni was there to climb a tree and pick a fig that was very high...and that she was making bird feeder out of peanut butter and nuts (Mom corrected her with "birdseed). That's my FAVORITE thing about Kendyll right now...she loves carrying on REAL conversations on the phone.

I'll talk to Cailee about the abbrevs:)

That is a hoot!
Bailey also thinks her jokes (which never make any sense) are hysterical. The only person that laughs at her is Connor!

okay, i totally love that story. Little girls are so funny. Lauren told me today at Target, "Mom, I think we have a problem" b/c she had heard a 10 year old girl say it in the school supply section. but, i am really impressed that Kendyll can switch sounds like that! What a smart little cookie!

Hey Chelsea!!! I just wanted to come and say Hi. I've read all through your blogs and LOVE them! I can totally relate to this one (Lexi is four and was just pulling the same kind of joking with me about spelling)...I cracked up about you stuffing chocolate pretzels in your kids mouths at Target...and I am pretty sure you said you are watching 24. (Charlie and I just finished the first season, and are about to start the 2nd...It is addicting!) Anyway, I just started blogging thanks to Candice. I am glad you are doing well! Blessings, Julie Benson (Monroe)
