Disclaimer before I start this blog series: These updates will cover a week full of events, so I'm sure I'll be long-winded. I might have to do it in parts....so here is the first of a few entries, I guess.Last Thursday, we went to the zoo with my sister, Cortni, her CUTE son, Braden, my youngest sister Cailee, and her boyfriend Orrin. We had a great time hanging out with family, laughing at how hard we all sweat for being girls, and seeing as many stinky animals as we could before we headed for the air conditioning!
Kendyll's zoo favorite is still the "rat cats", as she calls them, also known as meerkats, also known as "Timon" from Lion King. Her second favorite is the White Bengal Tiger, followed by the rhinos. Carlie's favorite is the fish, probably followed by the elephants and the monkeys. She wasn't too sure about the tigers, lions, bears (oh my!), or anything else that looked "real" and was walking too close to her viewing window.
My zoo favorite was the homemade mint chocolate fudge from the candy store, followed closely by the air conditioned burger place for lunch. Oh, and as for the animals, I probably am most amazed by the chimpanzees, the lion, and the cheetahs.
Braden's favorite stop was lunch as well, where he finally got to get out of the darn stroller and chow. He got his first taste of pizza crust from Aunt Chelsea, which he promptly bit into a huge chunk and almost choked. Good thing his mommy thinks fast. Good thing I learned fast that he doesn't "suck gently" on pizza crust like my girls did at that age. :) Won't be trying that again.
My favorite picture from the zoo is the one at the top of the blog. The girls holding hands walking. There is nothing sweeter to see than that. Especially when most of that week didn't include "sister love" very often. They were at a height of sibling fights, so it was nice to have them get along and not yell "MIIIINNNEEE" for a whole day.
We finished our zoo day hanging out at Grandad's house, since it's on the way back home. The kids rested and took naps. And, so did the mommies. :) Thanks, Grandad, for a comfy place to hang and cool off!
I do love the Fort Worth Zoo, even in July. It is the coolest zoo around, and makes for a fun day for all ages. However, I may not be back there until fall. And, if for some reason I go, I'm gonna take your sweat towel, Dad. :)

Orrin is SUCH an awesome name. I can't believe Kaylee is old enough to have a boyfriend. She's still like four in my head??
The girls look too cute in their matching outfits. I would have probably passed out at the zoo since I have no sweat glands and NEVER sweat..I could go running in the heat for an hour..no sweat. I just get beat red and look like a freak. Violet, you're turning Violet, Violet.
By the way...I should e-mail this to you but instead I'll post it for all the world to see...the other day I was driving in my car and got the most random thought of pasta roni. It took me back to the time in college when you and I locked ourselves out of the house, so our 90 year old landlord came over to fix the window we broke to unlock the door. We were in the kitchen making pasta roni when he ripped a couple of farts and went about his business. It was hilarious. Remember we had to retreat in your room to die laughing and then returned to our pasta roni. Anyway...thought I'd take you back down memory lane although this has nothing to do with your blog. I guess you could relate a fart to a stinky animal at the zoo...
What about the time I gave the pasta roni to the "deaf" woman, Sheila, only to have her hearing miraculously (sp?) come back a few weeks later when she wanted more pasta roni....good times.
I remember that! Remember we came home from class one day and she was sitting in our kitchen.
That scared me to deaf. I mean death. :)
Next time you guys are at the Ft. Worth zoo, you better give me a call!! :) Glad you had fun! Mary Alice always seems to notice the stinkiness of the animals too.
Sounds like fun. We haven't been to the zoo since last summer when Seth was just a few months old, and I think he would like it now (especially the fish -- his favorite word today).
We are hitting a big round of sibling quarrels ourselves...MINE, STOP SETH, DON'T TOUCH THAT...could be heard almost every 2 minutes this afternoon. Hopefully this too shall pass!
I was laughing out loud about both Sheila, the deaf intruder, and Mr. Landlord (what was his name???), who was very free with his farting. I mean, I feel like both of those things happened yesterday, because I can remember every detail! And, Pasta Roni was there with us for both. :)
Funny flashback, Ang & Sara. Maybe we need to do some blogs about our random stories from college. Nevermind, people would really think we were crazy. Especially if we included anything about our stalking experiences or the English professor who was in love with me. HA HA HA!!
Oh, and a few other comments back...
Ang, I know--it's crazy that Cailee has a boyfriend. What's crazier is that they were celebrating their ONE YEAR anniversary that day at the zoo. She is now driving a car and a junior in high school. CRAZY!
Amber, we will DEFINITELY call you for the zoo next time! We've gone three times this summer, and we love it. I didn't even think about how close you are to that area! We need to plan that---maybe when it's under 100 degrees.
And, Kristen, I'm glad to hear we're not the only ones with sibling fights every 2 minutes. I keep thinking, if it's like this NOW, what will it be like when they're older?!
