The weekend around here was very relaxing and quite productive, my two requirements for a great Saturday, especially. Friday night, we had our good friends, Jimmy, Alisa, and Katie over for dinner and playtime. It was so nice to grill out, play in the backyard, and spend lots of talking time with our friends, while the girls played together. Every time we do something like that, we say "We really should do that more!". So, that's what I'm hoping to do. Have family friends over more this summer, when traffic is lighter, days last longer, and our kids need more playtime with friends.
Saturday, we did nothing. It was awesome. We got up late, ate Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast (Carlie's favorite!), and set up all the fun outdoor playtime things. We filled the pool, started the Elmo sprinkler, and created our own water slide. We got out the bubble guns and the sidewalk chalk, the paints and buckets, and opened the sandbox. And, we played and played and played.
We also spent time cleaning out the garage and both cars, while the girls rode the tricycle and cars around the driveway. Then, went in for naps for all four of us. And spent the evening eating and relaxing indoors. It was the way every Saturday should be.
Sunday was church with promotion to new classes (my girls are getting so big!) Then, we had lunch with Mark's family at his parents' new townhouse nearby. Everything was delicious and it made us so excited that they will be here more now to have these kind of days. We also had a family auction for all the decorative pieces in the pre-furnished townhome that Pops and Grandma didn't want. It was pretty funny what we ended up with. A coo-coo clock, some decorative trunks and vases, a baseball lamp, and a whole bunch of other things. There was no minimum bid for any one item, so Mark got quite a few deals for 5 cents each! I even got an overstuffed sitting chair for $5.00! Kendyll had her own table of items up for bid, and she was very excited that no one outbid her for the miniature Barbie dolls or stuffed Furbies. She was a sweet sister and bid on some stickers for Carlie too, since she was down for a nap during the fun.
The end to our weekend was an empty house while the girls spent the night at Pops and Grandma's! After a marathon Sunday VBS meeting yesterday, Mark and I went to dinner at Rockfish and caught up on one of our favorite shows, House.
Which brings me to today. And, the next half of my blog title...the upcoming Blogging Lull.
There it is. My reason for what will be my "slow" blogging weeks of the summer. It's VBS TIME! We begin our "working weeks" tomorrow for Vacation Bible School at Prestoncrest. Although we've been meeting since March and I've been working on the curriculum since then too, this is when it truly gets busy. We put in all of our hours decorating, organizing, planning, and finishing up all the details that make the church become "The Arctic Edge". So, I'm telling everyone (especially the family, who clicks in daily to see pictures of the girls) that I will be around less often than usual until June 24th....the day after VBS.
What's funny is that even though it requires many, many hours, it is something I absolutely love doing, and will probably continue to be involved in as long as my kids are. There is something about Vacation Bible School that reminds me of what it is like to be a "church kid" in the summertime. There are so many great memories I have of seeing my friends every day for a whole week, learning fun music, making the coolest crafts, and, of course, learning more about the Bible. As the curriculum planner, I am hoping these children learn all they can about Elijah, Esther, Saul, Ananias, Peter, and John this year. And, I hope that they have a great time doing it!
So, I will be back sometime soon with updates on VBS, as well as Kendyll's lemonade stand that she is finally getting to have after waiting for months! What fun summer things lie ahead....

Have fun with VBS. I enjoyed it last year, and I'm a little sad to be missing out this year. I have signed up for the nursery (not quite so exciting) over here because I know it's the only way Avery will be able to go and Miller will not tolerate being left these days. I'll check back on the 24th:)
I'm laughing that we've come to the point in our lives where getting out every imaginable water toy and washing our cars on a Saturday is considered "doing nothing." Remember when Saturday's were about sleeping late, eating brunch at the Bean, taking a 3-hour afternoon nap, and then staying out till curfew (oooh)? Those were the good ol' days, but I wouldn't trade my life now for all that...oh wait, maybe I would ;)
Yeah, I thought that too when Mark and I literally said "This is what every Saturday should be like". Ummm, what happened to our "before kids lives"?? But, seeing the joy on two little ones' faces at simple things like bubbles and sprinklers is pretty worth it....but, yes, I think I would go back for a college Saturday any day! :) (you forgot our 3 hour marathon layout sessions where we all got skin cancer too...)
Let's all move back to Abilene with our families...how fun to live within streets of all your best friends again...the avg. housing "rose" recently to $80,000. The cost of living there alone is worth the move to us...Northern Virginia is killing us!!! (it's SO BEAUTIFUL here though!)
Anyway, until then...let's talk about the "reunion". Chels I posted back on CNS's blog...thanks Candy for the space :)
How fun to find Jane and the rest of the gang! Let me know what you think of the idea and I'll try to plan a little bit (this really will be pretty informal...so no one will feel pressure to lose weight or anything :)
Can't wait to see your sweet family. I met Kendyl at Angie's wedding and haven't seen her since...she was just weeks old if I recall correctly...
Jaime,
I love your weight comment...that cracks me up!! NONE oOf us can worry about stuff like that when we get together---for the rest of our lives, everyone promise?! We have cute kids to show for our hips and stretch marks, and that's what matters!
I have Jane's address and I might have her email. Everyone think of who else is close enough to come in for it. Such fun Jaime!!
Chels, you and cancer. Gosh.
Who are we talking about Jane?? Jane Talley? Does she have a blog..share the wealth.
Also, did I miss something? When did Mark's parents move there. I must have missed something. Fill a sister in.
Can't wait to see you.
ang
Ang, it took me a while to figure out what you were talking about with the cancer thing...I got it though. And, yes, I have always been paranoid. (But, still laid out with you for a sick amount of time every summer.)
Jane is Jane Talley. We have kept in touch like twice a year or something like that. She has two boys, but no blog that I know of. If she does have one, we need to find out the info on it!
And, yes, Mark's parents got a townhouse here and are keeping a condo in Hawaii for now. So, they are living both places! It's AWESOME!
Okay, maybe we should all start emailing each other. We're probably boring our hundreds of readers out there....HA!
Okay, I am reading these comments and my small world got smaller just now!
I went to high school with Jane Talley. Her husband Paul took me to my first dance (in 8th grade) and his Dad was my youth minister growing up. I guess I never thought that you would know her too! Crazy...
Seriously, Kristen, the C of C circle is SO small, it's unbelievable! I guess I could have easily figured that connection out, since all of my Waco friends (mainly from college) seem to be connected to you too! If you knew Lacy, then of course you knew Jane and Paul! But, I never put those things together either. :) I love our small world...it's so fun to figure it all out!
