Okay, so there's not really an upside to sickness...especially when it's your whole household. But, I have actually found some positive news in my day today, despite the diagnosis we received from our pediatrician. So, before I get to the good news....
We knew everyone was sick around here, but we just didn't know exactly what it was. Kendyll and Carlie both missed school all week, and have had the typical "Jacobs children symptom list" (ears, green noses, fevers, etc.) Mark came down with strep throat on Wednesday night and is now on drugs (but still whiny! And rightly so---his throat is NASTY!). So, I took the girls in this morning to see what we were dealing with. The diagnosis is worse than I thought----pneumonia for Kendyll, PLUS strep throat. Fun. Carlie is sick with the “usual” for her...ear infections, sinus infection, etc. but she's being put on the same drugs as Kendyll in case she's on her way to pneumonia too. So, everyone’s on drugs except me! (and hopefully, I can stay well enough to take care of all the sick ones!)
So, we are obviously stuck in the house for quite a few days until everyone is better, but the doctor did say that if Kendyll was feeling up to it, she could still go to her birthday party that is planned for Monday. (She will have enough antibiotics by then to be around others.) We’re hoping that she is feeling better for that, since she’s been waiting for her big FOUR year old party for so long now! For now, Kendyll is enjoying her movie time on the couch and doesn’t feel like doing much at all besides that. We knew she was really sick when she asked for no books for rest time because she was just too sleepy....what?! Then, she wouldn’t eat anything -- even ICE CREAM yesterday! But, hopefully she’ll start eating again with some antibiotics in her system...
So, now to the "upside". The best thing about this recurrent sickness stuff that my children always have is that the pediatrician now definitely agrees that we need to get Kendyll’s tonsils out. I really think this will help her feel better all around and it's something I've been concerned about for quite a while. She gets all of this stuff so easily, and I know that the tonsilectomy is what made me better when I was her age and is still what keeps me well! So, we will be meeting with her ENT doctor next week to see what he thinks. I hope it works out that we can make her “well’ before the next couple of years, as she starts REAL school!
I just feel like these kiddos are ALWAYS sick. I'm sure you all feel the same way, especially lately, since we've had multiple friends with children hospitalized for different illnesses. I guess that's the life of a mommy and small children. But, I do hope that they start feeling better soon! I'm ready for spring and summer to arrive to drive some of these viruses and colds outta here!!
So, say a little prayer for our sick family (and all the many others!) when you have a second. We would all greatly appreciate it! :) I'm off to the pharmacy and to Blockbuster. We're needing some movies for this little girl---and maybe a special treat or two. She got FIVE shots for her four year old checkup today and she was so brave!! She got to pick out FIVE lollipops and already decided who gets each one. Joshua, Trinity, Caroline, Chloe, and Jackson are the winners of their very own Dum Dum. Congratulations. Anyway, I was very proud of my big girl, although now she's worried that she can never use her legs again...I guess they're a little sore!
See you all later--after our quarantine weekend!

Girl, we are in the SAME boat...except the pneumonia. Ridgedon is scheduled for March 9 to get his tonsils out! I'm very happy about that...I'll just hate to see him hurting for a few days. But just like you, when I got mine out I was so much better! I'll say a prayer for your family!
Amy, I wish you still had your blog! When you commented, I clicked on your name just to SEE if MAYBE you decided to blog again! :)
It's good to know that we're not the only ones dealing with this. And, I agree that a few days of discomfort with the surgery is worth the months and years WITHOUT being sick!
Besides, prescriptions alone are going to make us go broke if we continue with this trend much longer!! :)
Oh, don't worry! Brian and I are in the process of building our own website. It'll be thewoodsgang.com. Its not ready yet. We wanted to be able to document our adoption journey and post about our kids all together. I know I could do that on the regular blog thingy but we have been wanting to do this for a while so....I'll let you know when it is up and running! Have a good weekend resting up. I have had the flu for about a week so I look forward to Brian being home and taking care of these kids! By the way, Bambi II is good!!
Oh no...as we get better, you guys are sicker! What is the deal with this winter and our sick babies. The kid classes and nurseries are going to be empty this Sunday at this rate!
At least with it raining, it isn't as bad being indoors??
The Fitz's are sending you some virtual chicken soup! Hope it helps! We will send our prayers as well. I, especially, pray for your patient as a mom and wife. It's tough when they're sick!
Be careful not to open your mouth too wide in the doctor's office with Kyndal or you may have to get your tonsils out, too, just like Carol Brady did on the Brady Bunch.
Sorry to hear about the sickness. It really stinks, but it's good she'll see some relief after her surgery. Our prayers are going up for you and your sweet family.
Here's a cure for you...move to Amarillo! Then all you have to deal with is allergies and bloody noses 24/7 because it's so stinking dry here! The scenery and smell, though, make it SO worth it! I've NEVER had allergies...until now. Can't quite figure that one out since I've lived here most of my life. I'll be back in Dallas soon...hope we can get together again! Love to all & hope you don't get sick. Miss you, friend!
I'm so sorry about all this sickness!!! It seems that all my blogging friends are dealing with it in one form or another. We have somehow managed to avoid it. I DO hope after your quarantine weekend you will all be feeling well enough for a big FOUR year old birthday party! Prayers from Houston.
Amy Woods?? Aren't you Sara's sister? YA"LL are adopting ALSO??? I would LOVE to hear your story!!! Looking forward to your website.
Girl, your family gets pneumonia more than any other family I know...and I know a lot of families (hehe-my job). I'm sorry to hear that ya'll have to go through this. If I were there, I'd make you chicken soup and bring it to you. Oh wait...I will be there really soon. Yipee! Well, try to enjoy your weekend at home.
Erin, yes that's my sister and yes, she's adopting too. We'll talk sometime.
