The Day Has Come
I wasn't ready for this. I knew that the "second child" thing would be different and that time would pass faster, the amount of individual attention would be less, and she would learn things differently than the first child did. But, I wasn't prepared with how influential the oldest is on the youngest!!
Carlie pretty much copies everything Kendyll does, good or bad. We have tried to tell Kendyll this, in the hopes that it might make her stop the negative behavior that Carlie imitates. (a few examples....spitting, yelling at the dog, taking her pants off for no reason---yes, Carlie does this too now, spinning so fast you run into things, and the list goes on and on. There are good things too, like all the sweet songs Kendyll has taught her, the dance moves they do together, the way Carlie sits and reads with her, or the way Kendyll has taught her to slurp a spaghetti noodle.
But, tonight, the big-sister influence was in full effect. In the midst of playtime together, Carlie screamed "Nooooooo Denda (Kendyll)!! MOOOIIIINNNNEEEE!! (Mine!!!!) and then grabbed the toy out of Kendyll's hands. Oh no. Here we go. She has learned "the word". I swear Kendyll was at least a full year older when she discovered the concept of mine vs. yours. But, we have arrived already because she's heard it over and over. (And, if you know Carlie, you know she isn't just saying it to be cute---she means it, and you better give it back immediately.)
I probably should have handled it differently, but I really just laughed and said "Carlie, what did you say? Please tell me you didn't say that!!" And, then started tickling her. She's just too cute, even when she's being sassy. (And, I can't blame her that her older, wiser sister has influenced her sweet and innocent 17 month old self, right?!) Ahhh, the fun of sisterhood. And, it's only the beginning of the many lessons learned.

First of all, that picture should be on a card! Secondly, that is too cute that she is copying everything! I always wanted a sister to copy.
It IS so hard not to laugh at them but we are also told not to take things so seriously, right? Your girls are precious!
I remember a certain older sister thinking everything was "hers" and she could do it (annoyed look) by herself...and look how we turned out:) Carlie has to learn "mine" to last in this family:)
And you're lucky she is so cute. Everything is funnier and cuter when they are good looking and bratty:) (not that she is the latter!!)
That is a great story and so true! I love your girls from a fart and can't wait to see them again soon
We little sisters are always just pawns in the rebelion of our older sisters! :) It is amazing we turn out so great! hehehe
Okay, first of all, I am going to be a "know it all" big sister and say that my sister meant "far" instead of "fart" in her previous comment! She would tell you that I have been correcting her all of her life...that is the joy of being older I guess. Anyway, your girls are so precious, and I can't wait to get tips from you about parenting two little girls!
I humbly acknowledge the need for big sisters in the world! Especially one who lovingly corrects my farts from a far.
I am laughing just at these comments...Alyssa & Ashley kill me.
I am already worried about the day Seth says "MINE!" Sam already watches Seth like a hawk and the minute he looks at something of his to get, he yells, "That's MINE Seth!"
The joy of teaching sharing...got any good tips? Our day is just around the corner!
I lovvveee that picture. I know what you mean, but I can't wait until Brayden and Bryce begin to interact (but I sure hope Bryce doesn't teach Brayden all of the "stuff" he picks up at school:).
The picture should be sold to a greeting card company. Kuddos to Chels! Also I cannot wait for all the girl interraction around here. (ha,ha) Kaylee is very into taking care of Campbell but I think in another year Campbell is not going to be so cooperative. Then I will be calling you for advice.
