My Little Fashion Queen
Today, Kendyll was playing "polly pockets" online. To her, the most enjoyable part of this website is dressing the girls with different hats, clothes, colors, etc. So, I was sitting with her and helping her "dress" a few. This is how the conversation went:
Me: Kendyll, you are really creative! You think of such great clothes for these girls!
Kendyll: I know, I make really cute outfits, huh?
Me: You do! Maybe you'll be a fashion designer someday, do you think that would be fun? (we always talk about jobs for her to do someday....)
Kendyll: Yes! That's exactly what I want to do! (Then, with a puzzled look...) But, I think I already have way too many jobs.
Me: Well, you don't have to do everything! When you're older, you'll be able to decide what you want to do the most. But, you have so many talents, you can do alot of different things!
Kendyll: I know! I'll work at a store where they have clothes and you can come shop there and I will help you pick out outfits!
Me: That's a great idea! What store?
Kendyll: I will be at Walmart, number 7. That way you can always find me when you're ready to pay for your clothes. And, you'll say "Well, hi, Kendyll! You're on #7 again!" (this means Checkout Aisle #7, for those non-Walmart shoppers out there....)
Me: After total laughter that I could not stifle, I finally said, "That sounds perfect. I will always come to aisle #7 and tell you hi."
Ummm....maybe I need to start shopping at other places so my daughter knows there is a bigger world of fashion out there than Wal-Mart. :)

Test
Okay, it was lost but now it's found! That was so weird....I went to pull it up and it was a blank screen...
That scared me! Does anyone know a good company to use for getting your blog printed and bound? I've heard about these options, but now that I thought it was lost, I want to look into getting it done! I would be heartbroken if I lost this thing after a year and a half!!
Thanks, fellow bloggers!

It's a Winter Wonderland!
Well, at least to my two and four year old it is!! It's unbelievable that we have had this many days in a row of cold temperatures, rain, sleet, ice, and now snow! We haven't really ventured out in any of the other kinds of weather, but the snow was irresistable this morning...and the girls had SO much fun in the very little snow that we have. :)
Kendyll's favorite thing was throwing snowballs at her cold mommy.
And, Carlie's favorite thing was eating the snow. I think she got her "water intake" for today in the form of frozen slush from the front steps. Oh well, the top layer was clean, I hope! Here she is showing her big "snow bite" in her mouth...
I hope all of you fellow Texans enjoy your extra snow day too. I guess it's a great excuse to stay in the fleece PJ's, cancel my errands, and hang out at home! I know I should be sick of this by now, but, being the "homebody" that I am, I'm loving every minute! :)

Abby Kate Update
We had our last sonogram for our baby girl today and everything looks great. We have been visiting the perinatologist monthly to make sure this baby doesn't come early, and so far, she has cooperated very nicely with that request. :) As of today, we are officially out of the "danger zone" for preterm labor, and Abby Kate is measuring so well, that they don't want to see me again in the specialist's office!! So, it looks like we won't see her sweet face again until she makes her appearance in person!
Today was fun because we took both girls to see the sonogram. They loved getting to watch the baby on TV and even got their very own picture of her face (along with a pink sucker). It was sweet to watch them get excited about seeing her and hearing her heartbeat. Carlie sat speechless at first and then said "That's ABBY KATE!! I be the big sister!" Of course, Kendyll is never speechless, and had plenty to say...to the doctor, to me, to Daddy, to Carlie, to the nurse, to the baby.....lots of things to say. But, it is just such a blessing as a mommy to watch her experiencing this pregnancy/baby addition. She is so much more aware of everything than she obviously was with Carlie--and it's been fun to share it with her.
We also went upstairs to see the newborn babies again with them, and spent time imagining what it will be like to see Abby Kate through the same nursery window soon. Carlie talked about how the nurses would give her a bath, and how they would check her tummy to see if it was sick. (this is what she learned last time we visited the babies). Then, she saw the bassinets and said that she would roll the baby down the hall to mommy. It seems like she's really "getting it" and understanding what it will be like. The best thing was that a new mommy was looking at her baby through the glass, laying in her hospital bed, obviously wheeled up straight from labor and delivery. So, I used her as an example to show the girls what I will look like...which will hopefully help Carlie to not be worried as much when it's me in the bed. :)
So, all went well and the girls had a fun day. The baby is BIG and, while I am glad for that for many reasons, I am starting to worry that she is going to be TOO big! I am not quite 33 weeks, and her head is measuring at 36 1/2 weeks!! She also weighed in today at 5 pounds, 5 ounces! And, she still has "growing time" for five more weeks! Yikes!
But, my prayer all along was to have a big and strong baby. I guess God took me very literally on that one. :) We are thankful for little Abby Kate and for her great health. We would love prayers as we near the end of this pregnancy, that we will continue with a healthy pregnancy for the next few weeks and deliver our precious girl without any complications whatsoever. (And, if you want to, pray that she's not 10 pounds like her daddy was.... :)

Scattered Thoughts...
For the most part, we have been busy parenting our two kids, who seem to have forgotten every rule at our house, and have suddenly become more "agitated" lately in every way---mainly with each other. It's literally wearing me out...and I'm sure it's wearing them out to listen to us lecture and discipline so much. Why is it that right before we're adding another child to our family, the two we already have cause me to feel a slight panic at the thought of increasing our craziness?!
In fact, I was thinking yesterday that I really need to do a blog called "What I love about my children", just so I could be reminded of the positives about their sweetness. :) But, this too shall pass...right?!
In other news, we have made a decision about Kendyll's school for next year. After much prayer, research, and consideration of our options, we are feeling great about the choice we have made. That's the greatest part about giving something to God in prayer....every other option we were considering just kept looking like a "closed door". So, we feel like the "open door" we have arrived at is not only best for our family, but best for Kendyll, and God-led. Now, we have to wait and see if we officially get accepted, before our plan is put in motion. But, if everything works out, Kendyll will be attending Providence Christian School for kindergarten. It has a "classical Christian curriculum" which we have been so impressed with and encourages a great deal of parent participation in the education process, which I absolutely love. I visited the kindergarten class for one day, and was blown away by so many things....it will be a great place for Kendyll to be. When I walked in the door, for my classroom visit, the children stood behind their chairs and greeted me with "Good afternoon, Mrs. Jacobs". They showed their teachers the same respect, and were so eager to learn. They make it so fun to learn there and have such neat programs. For example, they have two gardens that the kindergarteners tend all year, and animals from each of the animal groups that are in their kindergarten hall, including eggs that the children watch hatch as the year progresses. Kendyll is very excited about all of these things, plus the art and music classes she will get to be in. Well, I could go on and on about Providence, but I won't. We are very thankful for the way God has led us to this place....and now we will just continue to pray that He will lead us as we budget for private school, when we never dreamed we would be taking anything but the "public school" road!
Other updates about Kendyll....she is either growing up SO quickly, or she just seems like it because I'm about to have another little one. But, she turns five in a few weeks, and it just seems like she's gotten "big" overnight. She does so much around the house to help me, she reads anything we put in front of her (and I take absolutely no credit for that skill!), and she is beginning to understand bigger and bigger concepts. The other night, I walked into her room, as she and Mark were playing a card game on her bed. They were both sitting cross-legged, laughing about the card she had just played, and as I looked at them, I suddenly got this image of her as a 14 year old, sitting on her bed someday. It's just amazing to see how much more I picture her now as "older someday" rather than as she used to look like in her toddler years. Those days are becoming harder and harder to remember....
As for other members of our family, Carlie is continuing to amaze us with her "Carlie-ness" (I really don't know how else to describe it!) She completely cracks us up with her facial expressions (rolled eyes or crazy faces) and so many things that she says. She is obsessed with Dora and would really watch 32 episodes a day if we would let her. She is becoming quite the boss around here, and uses phrases like "Right now!" and "No, m'am!" way too often. (which explains why we feel like we've been disciplining constantly lately....) She loves school and all of her friends, "Flabie, Becca, Hewry (Henry), Sam, Emma, Sawah"...the list goes on and on. She has learned so much from "Mis Cole" (Nicole), her teacher. She loves to play school at home with her flashcards. She sits in "circle time" and shows everyone her flashcards. She says "Hey guys, what's this?" Then, whoever her student is gives their answer and she says "Good job, brown triangle (or whatever the card shows)". She also loves to sing and "pretend read" like her sister. Her favorite songs are anything about her Bible (which she carries around 24/7), Roll the Gospel Chariot, Mamma Mia (random, I know), and "Holy" (You are Holy). Her prayers melt my heart, and sometimes make us laugh too. She always corrects Kendyll in the middle of her prayers and tells her to "fose you eyes" (close your eyes). But, she prays for everything she can think of, some of which we can't even understand.
One of my favorite things she is doing now is snuggling more than ever. She wants to hug and kiss all the time and she'll say "I love my mommy (or daddy)". Then, I say "I love my Carlie" and she says "No, you love your baby!" This is so funny to me because she is about to no longer be the "baby", and she seems to be figuring that out! She wants me to call her the baby as long as possible, I guess.
As for baby Abby Kate, she continues to make her presence known daily with the largest kicks and flips I have ever experienced. Seriously, she blows my other two babies out of the water for the level of activity she is constantly at (and I was hoping for my calm, quiet third child!!). The girls love to watch her kick, as my stomach moves in all kinds of random ways, and they giggle and laugh when they think she is "kicking them". Of course, all of that movement makes me waver between a general "seasick" feeling from being tossed about from the inside-out, and being in a state of constant contractions, as my uterus responds to her pokes and jabs. So, needless to say, I'm pretty ready to be holding my little wiggle worm in my arms rather than my stomach. If she continues with the same pattern that both Kendyll and Carlie did, we will have a baby in a little over FIVE weeks! Unbelievable! I can't wait to meet her and have her here with us---basically, that's a nice way of saying that I'm really tired of being pregnant!
We spent time this weekend (since we were stuck in the house with the weather) washing all of her sweet clothes and getting all of her things organized. Oh my goodness, it makes me want to squeeze her already!! I've missed folding tiny newborn laundry....especially when I can visually picture each of my girls in these outfits that are being passed down to her.
We have also made our list of "prayers and commitments" for 2007, a new way for us to say "resolutions". We found a great list of questions to help us with these (http://biblicalspirituality.org/newyear.html) and I hope some of you find them helpful as well. We really enjoyed spending time as a couple, really discussing these things as our year begins, many of which I'm ashamed to say I had never thought about. For example, one question is "Whose salvation will you pray for daily this year?" and "What humanly impossible thing will you ask God to do in your life this year?" Wow....those really made me think hard. They were a little different than my usual "exercise more" and "finish my scrapbooks" (both of which are still on my list from last year!!) Anyway, this list was a very good reminder of what each day should really be about....
In final news, we are getting geared up for TV today! We only watch a couple of shows around here, so when the two or three start that we do like, we get pretty pumped. We have been busy for the last few months trying to catch up on all 5 seasons of "24". We successfully finished in time for the big Season Six premiere tonight. We can't WAIT! We are also big American Idol fans, and finally have that back in the lineup this week too. I know that may sound completely unexciting to many of you, but any excuse I have these days to lay on the couch is a great one!
Well, I think that about sums up our random updates for now. Hope you are all staying warm in this wintry weather! I just finished my hot chocolate and am going back for more!!

The End of Christmas

Braden really enjoyed the chocolate cake at Christmas. I think he had three or four desserts that night. I could eat HIM for dessert I think. SO cute!
My sisters, Kylie, Cortni, and Cailee, before our big New Year's night began....
Some of the family gang hanging out after a huge yummy lunch. Our favorite thing to do is sit around and talk for hours....
And now, I'll finish my Christmas blogging with a list of "extra favorite things" about this holiday:
1) My children's time with their grandparents and great-grandparents. Both Kendyll and Carlie had multiple sleepovers with all six of their grandparents (our parents) and got to see all five of their great-grandparents for Christmas this year. I have always prayed for close relationships for our kids and their grandparents and this Christmas showed how much they love their Gammy, Papa Ron, Grandma, Pops, Grandad, Grankay, Grandmother, Maw Maw, Paw Paw, Grandmother, and Papa Roy. What a list that is for two little girls!!!
2) The joy I saw as my kids opened their presents. I have been harping on "not being greedy" and "remembering what Christmas is all about" probably to the point of being over the top, especially with Kendyll. But, watching her open each and every gift from family and being truly happy and thankful for what they picked out for her, and then seeing both Kendyll and Carlie hug and kiss each giver with a "thank you" was the sweetest thing. They are beyond blessed, and I'm glad to see that they realize that on some level. (even though there were plenty of comments still made like: "Do we have any more gifts to open?")
3) The time we've spent since Christmas talking about our blessings. Kendyll has been busy hand-writing thankyou's to each and every family member, and we have had the opportunity to sit down and really think through all that we received and how blessed we are for it. It has been so great to read her sweet thank-you's to her family (especially in her own "phonics spelling" kind of way).
4) Our new family love for Ghana and for Atsupuhi. The last Christmas present Kendyll opened from us was a stack of papers with a little girl's picture on the front. Atsupuhi is one week younger than Kendyll and lives around the world in Ghana, Africa. We have adopted her through Compassion International (thank you Candice for the idea!), and we plan to write her, send her pictures, and keep in touch with her family. It's Kendyll's first pen-pal, and she is obsessed with her! Grandad and Grankay got her a globe for Christmas that tells you information about any country around the world. Let's just say we know every fact there is to know about Ghana. It is my dream that Kendyll and Atsupuhi will meet someday....
5) Thinking about our holidays next year with little Abby Kate. Yes, that's right....if you've actually stuck with reading my blog this long, you just heard the official name of our baby girl. "Abby Kate" will be an added joy to our Christmas next year and I look so forward to the holidays with three little girls!! She already got a few pretty things for Christmas, and I can't wait to have her here to model them!
There's the end of Christmas blogging! There is always more to tell, and more pictures to post, but I've GOT to stop this!! :) On to the new year....
More Christmas Pictures!
The family at church on Christmas Eve. Really, Carlie was happier than she looks, I promise. :)
Carlie and her new Bitty Baby clothes, picked out by Kendyll on our New York trip earlier this fall. Kendyll was so proud to give Carlie something that she loved so much.
Kendyll modeling her new robe! She has been wanting a robe "just like Mommy's", and she has enjoyed wearing it for every bath since Christmas....
Carlie & Daddy pose at Aunt Cortni's house after opening her cool new wooden food and fun shopping cart....the favorite piece is shown here. A build-it-yourself wooden hamburger. :)
And, Kendyll gets her Barbie, Jenevieve, with a spinning skirt and matching tiara. Oh, the joy of a four year old Christmas!!
Pops and his girls! (well, minus cousin Sophie!)
Grandma and her girls! (with their pretty Christmas Pj's she bought them!)
Now, that brings us to this last weekend....whew! So much to catch up on.
The Big Reveal....
Christmas Eve, the girls slept in their new tents (Christmas presents from Gammy and Papa Ron) in our floor, anticipating Santa's arrival. This picture was taken at 10:00 pm...do they look excited or what?!
Daddy read Christmas stories and attempted to calm them down before bedtime while I contacted Santa's elves to let them know the "coast was almost clear". My favorite new book this Christmas is "God Gave us Christmas". So, we read that, along with the traditional "Night Before Christmas". And, then we got to work!! We were in such a rush that we forgot to set out the Christmas cookies Kendyll had made for Santa before she went to bed. Oops!!
The next morning, they read their Santa note downstairs that told them to follow a candy trail to their presents. After climbing the stairs (and Carlie eating the entire candy trail along the way), they closed their eyes for the big reveal...

Surprise!! Their new room was waiting for them!
A new ballet mirror and stage, their new dresser vanities, and their new beds!!

And, every day since then, they have spent the day dancing away in their new "sister room".
